Special Announcement!

The Keyport Ministerium Food Pantry (KMFP) and the Board of Trustees announce the groundbreaking ceremony on July 20th at 10:00 am for the new KMFP Community Center to be built at The Community Church in the historic borough of Keyport, NJ. The food pantry building will be located on Warren Street between Division and Osborn Streets. (The Church does not have a number on Warren St.  The Parsonage at the back of the church is 125 Division St., Keyport, NJ 07735 which you can use for directions at internet sites or on a GPS).See Map.

This project represents a unique public/private partnership and a culmination of ten years of planning to create a new, larger facility which will serve as an anchor for social services, education programs, and food distribution to over 200 families per month from more than 20 towns in the Monmouth County Bayshore area. The pantry has currently been working at St. Mary’s-the Virgin Episcopal Church for many years at a location inadequate to serve its current clients.

Recognizing the need to improve upon the inadequate space at its current location, the pantry will now be able to address clients with increased confidentiality through private office space, expand its refrigeration and freezer capabilities and add public restrooms and a space for donated clothing. It will also allow the pantry to enlarge its volunteer base. The new 2403 square foot Community Center will house numerous programs sponsored by the Ministerium.
The KMFP will manage the Community Center through generous donations and support from nine local churches that have already collected over $208,000 toward construction costs in private funds since the project began in 2005.In 2011 the County approved a Community Development Block Grant for $134,375 in matching funds to be used towards the construction. The Community Church has provided the land for the Center for $1 per year lease to the KMFP. Engineering, Architects and legal services were provided pro bono. Many volunteers will be on hand to assist with construction of the facility.

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on July 20th at 10:00 am, and speakers will include: Rev. Dawn Seaman, Pastor of Community Church, for the official turnover of the land, Pastor Matt Thiringer, President of the Board of Trustees of the KMFP, Architect and Designer Kevin Kernahan and Executive Director Isaiah G. Cooper with whom the project was born.
Both Senator Menendez and Congressman Pallone will be on hand along with local town and county officials to lend their support for the project.

In the spirit of the KMFP tradition, donation boxes will be on hand to accept non perishables and canned goods during the event. Refreshments will be served following the opening.
